Youth Arts by Prescription (YaRx)
Youth Arts by Prescription (YaRx) is a collaborative platform created by Detroit Excellence in Youth Arts (DEYA), featuring twelve Detroit youth arts providers and 10 Detroit youth.
Funded by Children’s Foundation and the Michigan Art & Culture with administration by Connect Detroit, the first pilot of Youth Arts for Prescription (YaRx) over summer 2023 was a partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Based on the World Health Organization findings that “The overall evidence base shows a robust impact of the arts on both mental and physical health” YaRx seeks to connect Detroit young people experiencing health challenges with opportunities in the arts.
This is one of six short films commissioned by DEYA, produced and directed by Kristine Patnugot and Ted Houser. Lead Artists for YaRx are Jasmine Rivera and Jon Dixon.
Kristine Patnugot and Ted Houser are Detroit-based independent filmmakers who did some time in Hollywood and New York and have come home to Michigan with a commitment to tell local stories with a focus on community and social justice.
